There are three types of companies when it comes to business development:

1️⃣ Those that don’t engage in business development at all.

2️⃣ Those that do it at an average level but haven’t seen tangible results yet.

3️⃣ Those that take a professional approach and achieve noticeable success.

🚨 In today’s fast-paced world, neglecting business development is a major risk. Companies that ignore it run the risk of being left behind – and often faster than expected. Over the past one to two years, we’ve seen many companies of all sizes forced into drastic strategic shifts. Some had to lay off 10–20% of their workforce just to survive. Typically, these are companies that either ignored business development or failed to approach it professionally. Had they taken it seriously earlier, they would have seen the changes coming and could have adjusted in time with smaller course corrections.

My advice for each of these groups:

🚀 If you’re not doing business development yet, now is the time to start. Ideally, with an experienced business developer. If that’s not financially feasible, look for ways to take the first steps on your own.

📈 If you’re already doing it but not seeing results, it’s likely not professional enough. Business development takes time – the later you take it seriously, the later you’ll see the benefits. Now is the moment to shift gears and take business development to the next level.

🔎 For companies already operating at a professional level, there are often untapped opportunities:

• Optimizing pricing strategies

• Training the sales team

• Improving internal processes and workflows

Business development is not a short-term project but a strategic decision with long-term impact. Those who take it seriously secure sustainable growth.
