The Timeless Laws of Pricing

In the business world, pricing is like a compass: it sets direction, builds trust, or causes it to break. A price is never just a number – it is a signpost that tells what a company stands for, what value it creates, and how confident a customer may feel.

Many companies look at pricing only through their own mirror. They ask themselves, “What do we want to communicate?” instead of examining what the customer truly perceives. Yet pricing works like a conversation: only when both sides understand each other can trust be built.

The decisive questions are:

Does the customer understand what they are buying?

Do they feel, “This price feels right, it’s worth it”?

The opposite can often be seen in the mobile communications industry. Many tariffs resemble a dense jungle of footnotes, add-ons, and hidden boundaries. “Unlimited data volume” suddenly ends – or becomes so slow that it’s barely usable. When a customer cancels, better offers magically appear. New customers often receive more attractive conditions than long-standing loyal customers. This creates a feeling of uncertainty – trust is lost, not only in individual providers but in the entire industry.

What defines a strong pricing strategy?

The price always speaks.

It shows who the offer is for and which problem it solves. A clear price feels like a clean, well-lit road.

Value beats cost.

A good product does not need loud sales arguments. It creates the feeling: “I need this.”

Prices that are too low create mistrust.

If something sounds “too good,” the customer automatically asks: “Where’s the catch?”

Pricing requires courage and clarity.

A clear price feels like a firm handshake: confident, transparent, unmistakable.

The price is a filter.

It determines who comes on board. Premium or basic? Security or innovation? Every pricing decision tells a story.

A business developer helps and supports the company to ensure that this story remains clear and understood.
